SEND
At Honywood, we support and value the abilities of all our learners. We are committed to inclusion within the school curriculum and participation in all aspects of school life. Honywood adopts a ‘whole school approach’ to special educational needs where all staff work to ensure the inclusion of all learners through our Capital enhancing curriculum. As a secondary mainstream provision principally offering a range of GCSE subjects, it is anticipated that in the main, most SEND can be met through reasonable adjustments and Quality First Teaching (QFT). Our curriculum design aims to promote independence in learning, provide opportunities for authenticate learning and to intrigue learners. Our aim is to negate the need for withdrawal or removal of any aspect of the curriculum to a learner as a result of SEND. Teachers and support staff are provided with personalised support strategies for each learner and these are updated as their learning needs evolve throughout their time at the school. The school responds to the changing needs of these learners and the SEND team welcomes the views of teachers, support staff, parents/carers and the youngsters themselves in helping shape the support they receive.
autism enhanced provision (aep)
Honywood is one of four secondary school in Essex with a purpose-built Autism Enhanced Provision (AEP). The AEP at Honywood is a 15 place provision (3 places per cohort), these are funded by Essex County Council. All applications for admission to the AEP are made only though the Year 5 Annual Review Process. Places are managed through a monthly autism panel and are granted by the Local Authority (LA). The LA works closely with the school to ensure places are allocated in accordance with need. As this is a separately funded resource, use of the AEP by autistic learners who attend the mainstream provision is at the discretion of the SENCO with responsibility for the AEP.
